“Reuters”: Ukraine’s “Starshield” contract expires

Ukraine’s contract with the US government for access to the “Starshield” satellite system, a military analogue of Elon Musk’s SpaceX company’s “Starlink” network, expires in mid-2027.

elchi reports that the “Reuters” agency has disseminated this information.

Ukraine’s Chargé d’Affaires in Washington, Denis Senik, stated that it is necessary to immediately begin negotiations on a new agreement. The diplomat emphasized that Kyiv wants to gain clarity on how the process will proceed and what the terms will be, as reaching such agreements takes time.

The issue of extending the contract became even more relevant after restrictions were imposed on “Starshield’s” operation in October. The sudden reduction in terminal speed limit made it difficult for Ukrainian soldiers to neutralize Russian strike drones and caused some operations to be postponed. According to Senik, neither Washington nor the “SpaceX” side has yet provided Kyiv with an official explanation for the reason behind these restrictions.
