UK warns Iran

“The United Kingdom will not remain indifferent to Iran’s attacks on civilian infrastructure and threats to commercial shipping.”

elchi reports that this was stated by the UK Minister of State for the Middle East, Stephen Doughty, while speaking about Iran’s threats to civilian infrastructure and shipping in the Persian Gulf.

The minister also drew attention to the activities of Iran’s proxy forces in the Middle East: “Our position regarding the extremely serious threats posed by Iran and its proxy forces is clear and common. Our firm position for a long time has been that Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons”.

Doughty also noted the activities of “Hezbollah”, Hamas, “Ansarallah” (Houthis), and armed groups based in Iraq among the region’s security problems.

The British Minister of State emphasized that Iran should not target its partners, friends, commercial interests, and civilians:

“Iran’s threats against civilian infrastructure and seafarers in the Persian Gulf endanger the national sovereignty and security of the UK’s regional partners, as well as the rules-based international order.”
