Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, has declared Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a “war criminal” and stated that despite regional complexities, his country will continue to prioritize diplomacy and play a mediating role for peace.
elchi reports that Al Thani made these remarks in an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan on his program “Piers Morgan Uncensored.”
Emphasizing that the actions in the Gaza Strip constitute war crimes and that Netanyahu should be held responsible, Al Thani noted that the Israeli Prime Minister is attempting to manipulate public opinion and create a false impression of reality by attacking Qatar.
Stating that Netanyahu blames others instead of analyzing the actions of himself and his government, Al Thani said: “Netanyahu is a war criminal… He is trying to attribute his actions to others.”
Al Thani, once again condemning Israel’s attack on the mediator last year, stated that the attack created a dangerous precedent, saying, “Netanyahu has crossed the red line.”
Regional crises and negotiations with Iran
Touching upon regional processes, Qatar’s Prime Minister Al Thani reminded that his country has repeatedly warned about the consequences of the war – consequences that extend beyond Iran and the region, threatening the global economy. Emphasizing that they have “spare no effort” in seeking diplomatic solutions for an agreement between the US and Iran, in coordination with the US administration, Al Thani noted that although the mediation process is not easy, “behind-the-scenes diplomacy” is the most effective method for achieving progress. Highlighting the importance of resolving three key issues to reduce regional tensions, Al Thani described them as follows:
“First, reaching a nuclear agreement that satisfies the US side and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), while ensuring Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy through the lifting of sanctions. Second, ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and aligning any agreement on this matter with the norms of international law. Third, strengthening security measures in the region, including Iran and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.”
