It has been reported that the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo has reached 8,067, with the death toll rising to 3,901. Officials noted that the epidemic continues to affect seven provinces.

It was noted that the epidemic was caused by the rare “Bundibugyo” virus variant – for which there is currently no approved vaccine or specific treatment – and the mortality rate has exceeded 48 percent.
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) announced that 50 healthcare workers have lost their lives since the beginning of the epidemic. Africa CDC stated that, in terms of the rate of spread, the current situation has surpassed the 2014–2016 West African regional epidemic, which claimed the lives of more than 11,000 people.
