During his visit to France, Pope Leo XIV called on European countries to resolve their differences through dialogue and compromise.
“Elchi” reports that, speaking in the city of Metz, the pontiff stated that it is necessary to make compromises to end armed conflicts on the continent. “Relations between people and states are becoming less and less civilized. The value of one’s word is being denied. Instead, people boast of lies and deceit,” he emphasized.
According to him, Europe can break this cycle by “showing respect for others.”
The pontiff called on countries to engage in patient dialogue and to be ready to “renounce some demands for the sake of common peace.”
He added that international law and multiculturalism are “the best medicine against the desire for dominance that lies at the heart of every conflict.”
The pontiff arrived in France on September 24 for a four-day apostolic visit. On Monday, he traveled to the city of Metz (Grand Est region), where he delivered a speech titled “Towards Europe’s Roots for the Sake of Peace and Unity” at a conference center named after Robert Schuman, one of the founders of the EU, the Council of Europe, and NATO.
