A powerful typhoon moving towards the eastern coast has caused disruptions in Japan’s transport system and led to the closure of numerous tourist attractions.
elchi reports that Typhoon “Dujuan,” with sustained wind speeds of 126 km/h and gusts reaching 180 km/h, is expected to pass near the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture, near Tokyo, on Monday.
Transport and events affected
All Nippon Airways has canceled flights to Hachijo Island, south of Tokyo, which is currently under the influence of heavy rain and strong winds.
Some train services have been suspended in Chiba Prefecture, where Narita Airport is located.
The Japan Meteorological Agency has warned that the typhoon could cause record-breaking rainfall until Tuesday and has urged residents in coastal areas to be cautious of landslides and flood risks.
Rainfall in the Tokai region is forecast to reach 350 millimeters.
“Dujuan,” the 25th typhoon of the year, has coincided with a five-day holiday period. This situation has led to the cancellation of the “Rock in Japan” music festival and some events within the “Tokyo Game Show” exhibition.
The number of participants at the opening ceremony of the Asian Games, currently taking place in Nagoya and Aichi Prefecture, has also been negatively affected due to concerns regarding the typhoon.
