Revolutionary discovery: The human brain is actually two separate organs

Research conducted by scientists at Stanford University has revealed a significant fact regarding human brain development. Researchers have determined that the front and back parts of the brain originate from distinct progenitor cell groups at a very early stage of embryonic development.
elchi reports that it was previously believed that the entire brain develops from a single primary group of progenitor cells. However, researchers discovered that during gastrulation, a critical stage of embryonic development, two separate cell groups emerge.
One of these cell groups differentiates to form the front part of the brain, while the other forms the back part.
Two different developmental paths
The study also determined that the genetic instructions governing these cell groups are organized differently. As a result, the front and back regions of the brain are formed through distinct biological pathways during development.
Kyle Loh, a developmental biology expert at Stanford University, noted that the fact that the brain consists of two separate parts may be the result of an ancient developmental mechanism.
Researchers believe that the evolutionary history of this structure may also be quite ancient. The existence of a similar nervous system organization in some marine creatures that share a distant common ancestor with humans suggests that this developmental model may date back hundreds of millions of years.
While the back part of the brain plays a role in automatic body functions such as heartbeat, breathing, and sleep, the forebrain and midbrain are responsible for more complex functions such as language, logic, and abstract thinking.
