The midfielder of the English club “Sunderland” and captain of the Swiss national team, Granit Xhaka, is suspected of obtaining fake COVID-19 certificates.
elchi reports that the Swiss publication “Blick” has released information regarding this matter.
The authorities of his country have launched an investigation into the 33-year-old footballer. The Lucerne public prosecutor’s office has opened an official investigation into the case and summoned Xhaka to testify in early October.
It is noted that the footballer benefits from the presumption of innocence. However, if the charges are proven, he could face up to 5 years in prison.
After his last match, Xhaka refused to answer a question regarding the issue:
“I have no comment on this. I played football today, and that is what is important to me right now. I have been through worse things.”
