Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as well as the situation in Iran, with his German counterpart Johann Wadephul.

Wang Yi stated that China will only engage in actions that contribute to peace and will continue to assist in reconciliation between the parties. He noted that Beijing is ready to further strengthen communication and coordination with the European side and to make joint efforts toward resolving the conflict.
Wang Yi also noted that China and Germany are among the world’s largest economies and comprehensive strategic partners. According to him, against the backdrop of current pressures from unilateralism and anti-globalization, the parties should strengthen strategic communication, increase mutual trust, and deepen practical cooperation.
He noted that China and Germany should demonstrate a positive signal regarding the joint defense of multilateralism and free trade, strengthen confidence in the development of bilateral relations, and play a constructive role in the development of relations between China and the European Union (EU). Wang Yi emphasized that strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation serves the interests of both countries.
Touching upon China-EU relations, Wang Yi noted that the parties are comprehensive strategic partners and should not engage in a trade war. According to him, solutions to problems between the parties must be found through dialogue and consultation. He expressed hope that Berlin will maintain a rational and pragmatic approach and play an active role in the EU by promoting free trade and cooperation.
Wadephul stated that China-Germany relations have maintained a good development dynamic in recent years. Berlin hopes to further strengthen high-level contacts with Beijing, hold a new round of intergovernmental consultations, and deepen practical cooperation in trade, economy, and other fields.
He also stated that Germany supports the resolution of differences between China and the EU through dialogue and is ready to play an active role in this process.
