As a result of complex operational-search and customs control measures carried out by the employees of the Astara Customs Department of the State Customs Committee, the transit of a particularly large amount of narcotic substances through the territory of Azerbaijan was prevented.
“Elchi” reports that the committee’s press service has released information regarding this.
A cargo vehicle transporting “lettuce” and “celery” from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation was stopped at the Astara customs post and subjected to customs control at the import inspection line.
The vehicle was passed through a stationary X-ray machine and inspected with the use of a cynological service dog, which determined that there were packages hidden in the cargo.
During the inspection, 79 kg and 740 grams of narcotic substance – marijuana – were discovered in 230 “celery”-shaped packages hidden from customs control. An investigation into the fact is underway.
