The Pentagon is considering the withdrawal of at least 25,000 US troops stationed in Europe. The discussed plan involves reducing the US military presence on the continent by approximately one-third.
“Elchi” reports that, according to current and former US and Western officials, the number of troops to be withdrawn could reach 40,000.
Currently, there are approximately 80,000 US troops in Europe. It is reported that no final decision has been made on the matter yet.
Countries to be affected by the withdrawal plan
Germany, Italy, and Spain, which are the countries where the US has the most troops stationed, are expected to be affected by this potential withdrawal decision.
These options are being considered as part of a six-month review conducted by the Pentagon regarding the US military presence in Europe.
It is planned that the Commander of US European Command and Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Alexus Grynkewich, will present his initial analysis to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
According to the information, the assessment covers various options involving air, naval, and ground forces, as well as the possibility of redeploying some US forces to NATO’s eastern flank.
Secretary of Defense Hegseth is expected to make a final decision on November 6 before presenting the proposal to US President Donald Trump.
