The number of abortions in Azerbaijan has increased sharply.
“Elchi” reports, citing Modern.az, that the number of abortion cases in Azerbaijan has increased by 30% over the last 15 years. Thus, 95,875 births and 95,100 abortions were recorded in Azerbaijan last year. This means that for every 100 babies born in the country, there are 99 abortion cases.
It is interesting that in Russia, where more than 1 million abortions were recorded in 2010, the number of abortions decreased by 64% to 235,000 in 2025. Last year, 11,800 abortions were recorded in Georgia, which means a 26% decrease. Abortion statistics in Armenia also amounted to 18,700, showing a 23% decline.
In brotherly Turkey, as in Azerbaijan, the number of abortion cases has increased over the last 15 years. Last year, 74,000 abortions were performed in the country, an 80% increase compared to 2010. The Islamic Republic of Iran is also among the countries where the abortion trend is increasing. In Iran, abortion cases increased by 61% last year, reaching 305,200.
