Half of this village has been given to Azerbaijan – Mirzoyan

While in Tigranashen (Karki – ed.), I remembered what happened in Shurnukh.

“Elchi” reports with reference to Globalinfo.az that this was stated by Anush Mirzoyan, a deputy of the “Strong Armenia” faction of the Armenian parliament.

She stated that if half of Shurnukh was handed over to Azerbaijan, it means that eventually, Karki will also be returned:

“In Shurnukh, an Azerbaijani flag was planted on the roofs of more than 10 houses. We are at the top of the village, and at the bottom, there is an Azerbaijani sign. At that time, government representatives said, ‘We must give up this territory so that there is no fighting.’ As a result, the village was divided in two, and half was given to Azerbaijan.”

It should be noted that the return of a part of the Shurnukh village to Azerbaijan was carried out in 2021 within the framework of the process of clarifying the Armenia-Azerbaijan state border. During the border demarcation, GPS coordinates as well as maps from the Soviet era were used. As a result of this process, the state border line was clarified for the part of the village located on Azerbaijani territory, and the area passed under the control of Azerbaijan.
