Graduation exam for Russian-language section graduates may change

“The weekly teaching hours for the Azerbaijani language have been increased in classes where instruction is conducted in other languages. This will improve the quality of Azerbaijani language instruction in those classes.”

elchi reports that Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev stated this during an interview with the “Hədəf” program on Azerbaijan Television.

The minister noted that changes should also be considered regarding the content of graduation exams for classes where instruction is conducted in other languages: “The issue of admission to higher education institutions is also among the topics being discussed. Because during the admission process, classes with instruction in other languages and the Azerbaijani section are evaluated on separate scales, which leads to different passing scores. It is important that the competition be conducted on the same scale for majors where the Azerbaijani language is essential, especially in fields like ‘Medicine’ and ‘Law’.”

The minister pointed out that it is not fair for a student graduating from a class with instruction in other languages to be able to choose the same major with a lower score: “We are working on this issue together with our colleagues. I repeat, it is a priority of Azerbaijani education that Azerbaijani citizens speak the Azerbaijani language fluently and correctly. It does not matter in which language they receive their education; there is no room for compromise here.”
