In the French capital, Paris, approximately 10,000 police officers have staged a protest demanding salary increases and improved working conditions.
“Elchi” reports, citing the “Le Monde” newspaper, that the demonstration, which began on the Champs-Élysées and continued to the National Assembly building, was initiated by the “Alliance” and “Unite SGP Police-FO” trade unions.
“The demands are simple: today we are constantly told that police are valued and respected, but nothing happens in terms of salary increases,” said Fabien Vanhemelryck, General Secretary of “Alliance”.
He noted that the work of police officers is becoming increasingly dangerous, but the risk allowance has not been increased since 2019. According to him, trade union representatives are also demanding a meeting with the French Minister of the Interior.
Trade unions are calling for an increase in staff numbers, the provision of necessary equipment, enhanced security, and the allocation of additional funds.
The latest action was a continuation of the police protests on June 30. On September 4, trade union representatives expressed their dissatisfaction with the results of a meeting dedicated to budget issues with Deputy Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez.
