Iran has summoned the head of the Austrian diplomatic mission to express its strong protest regarding the refusal to grant a visa to Iran’s Vice President and head of the Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami.
elchi reports that, according to “Fars News”, this was announced by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei.
At his weekly press conference, he stated: “According to international law, they were required to issue a visa to the Iranian delegation. We took immediate action and summoned the Austrian charge d’affaires to express our protest.”
According to Baghaei, Vienna’s refusal to issue a visa under pressure from Washington does not absolve Austria of responsibility. He also described Austria’s actions as unjustified. As the host country of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Austria is obligated to issue visas to Iranian delegations.
Previously, Bloomberg agency, citing a source, reported that Austrian officials, at the request of the US, had denied entry to the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami; as a result, he will not be able to speak at the IAEA General Conference.
