According to preliminary reports, 5 people have died and 87 are missing as a result of a fire that broke out on a passenger ferry off the coast of the Philippines.
elchi reports that, according to the Philippine-based broadcasting company “GMA Network”, officials stated that a fire broke out for unknown reasons on a passenger ferry traveling from the capital Manila to the Coron region of Palawan province.
Officials announced that 5 people died as a result of the fire on the ferry, which was carrying a total of 134 people (117 passengers and 17 crew members).
Noting that 42 people have been rescued so far, officials stated that search and rescue operations for the 87 missing people are ongoing.
