A heated debate took place in the Bundestag between German politician Friedrich Merz and Alice Weidel, co-chair of the “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) party.
“Elchi” reports that this was stated by “The Guardian” newspaper.
The dispute was sparked by Weidel’s criticism of the government regarding migration, energy policy, and “war propaganda” against Russia, as well as her call for the resumption of gas supplies via the “Nord Stream” pipeline.
“You did not understand the message that the voters of Saxony-Anhalt gave you last Sunday. But it does not matter, because your time is up anyway,” Weidel said, addressing the Chancellor.
In response, Merz called the AfD leader a “destructive force” and promised that Germany would continue its support for Ukraine. “You are clearly demonstrating a completely grotesque reversal of roles, where some are victims and others are aggressors,” said Merz, emphasizing that Ukraine is also defending the freedom of Europe. His speech was repeatedly interrupted by AfD representatives.
Weidel had previously stated that the AfD’s victory in the Saxony-Anhalt state elections was the result of Merz’s failed policies regarding illegal migration, open borders, and the rise in crime among foreigners, as well as his disastrous energy policy, which has led to the highest energy prices in the world.
The politician also characterized Merz as a “heavy burden” for Germany. “No chancellor has ever been in a position as unpopular as Friedrich Merz; he has become a heavy burden for Germany’s prosperous development,” Weidel emphasized.
