Azerbaijani judokas will participate in the “Grand Slam” tournament to be held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, from September 11 to 13.
“Elchi” reports that 16 athletes (12 men, 4 women) will compete in 11 weight categories.
The team will be led by the head coach of the men’s national team Richard Trautmann, senior coaches Elkhan Mammadov and Robert Krawczyk, head coach of the women’s national team Amina Abdellatif, and senior coach Sascha Herkenrath-Wimar.
More than 500 judokas from 70 countries will participate in the competition, which provides ranking points for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympic Games.
Among the women, Konul Aliyeva (48 kg), Aydan Valiyeva (52 kg), Sudaba Aghayeva (70 kg), and Madina Kaisionova (+78 kg) will test their strength in the tournament.
In the men’s category, Murad Muradli and Babarahim Mirzayev (both 60 kg), Rashad Yelkiyev and Nizami Imranov (both 66 kg), Kamran Suleymanov and Rashid Mammadaliyev (both 73 kg), Hidayat Heydarov and Vusal Galandarzade (both 81 kg), Vugar Talibov (90 kg), Ajdar Baghirov (100 kg), Jamal Gamzatkhanov and Kenan Nasibov (both +100 kg) will strive to reach the podium.
Nazim Umbayev, a member of the Referees Committee of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation and an A-category international referee, will be among the officials at the tournament, which is part of the World Judo Tour.
