In order to meet the requirements of the Master Plan for the development of Baku city until 2040, the expanding “Sea Breeze” project, as well as the growing energy demand of Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, “AzerEnergy” is constructing a substation at the border of Pirshagi and Novkhani settlements with a voltage of 220/110/10 kilovolts and a total transmission capacity of 750 megavolt-amperes.
According to the information provided to “Elchi” by “AzerEnergy”, work is progressing rapidly on the new 220-kilovolt “Sea Breeze” substation, which is being built on a 5.8-hectare area, and the majority of the project has already been completed. In the initial phase, large-scale earthworks were carried out to drain the area, effectively turning the site into a construction zone. Drainage and collector systems have been built to prevent the accumulation of precipitation and groundwater both around the substation and in the settlement area.
Parallel to the construction of the “Sea Breeze” substation, 17.5 km of 220 kV underground cable lines are being laid in accordance with modern urban planning concepts to integrate it into the power system. This strategic energy facility, which is of particular importance for Baku, is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
According to Teymur Abdullayev, head of the public relations center of “AzerEnergy”, the commissioning of the 220 kV substation will further expand Baku’s 220 kV circular power supply scheme. This will create additional opportunities for more efficient distribution of energy flows and ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers in case of accidents or maintenance.
In addition, the integration of the substation with 110 kV networks will further strengthen the stability of power supply in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula by reducing the load on existing substations.
The new power center created by “AzerEnergy” will serve the capital’s long-term urbanization and economic development goals by creating additional opportunities for the energy supply of future residential, tourism, and business projects.
