Russia has warned that it could strike British military targets due to Britain’s support for Ukraine.
“Elchi” reports that the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry has called on Britain to back down from its position in the war, stating that it carries the risk of escalating the conflict to a completely new level.
Maria Zakharova stated at a press conference in Moscow that Britain and France are “playing with fire” by providing complex missile technology to Ukraine.
The British Ministry of Defence stated that the Russian government should not doubt the determination to stand against Russian aggression in Ukraine, as well as against Britain and its allies.
England announced it would allow Kyiv access to secret technology
On Monday, Britain announced it would allow Kyiv access to secret technology to begin production of “Storm Shadow” long-range cruise missiles capable of striking deep into Russian territory. France has also confirmed the licensing of technology for the European-made missile.
This decision received a harsh reaction from Russia, and President Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, stated that this step would “add fuel” to the conflict. However, in a statement to journalists during his visit to Kyiv earlier this week, Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the real question is who started the fire. Russia’s intervention came a week after the Russian Embassy in the UK confirmed reports that Ukrainian forces were using drones produced by two British companies, suggesting that London has chosen to further escalate the Ukrainian crisis against the backdrop of rising tensions between the Kremlin and Downing Street.
Meanwhile, former ministers have stated that Burnham should not back down in the face of threats.
