“Electronic gate border control system” launched at Heydar Aliyev International Airport

The State Border Service continues to take measures to implement border control based on modern technologies, ensure passenger comfort, and increase the efficiency of border crossing procedures.

In this context, an “Electronic gate border control system” (automated passport control and biometric identification system) has been launched at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.

The innovative system, operating on the basis of modern technological solutions, allows citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who have reached the age of 18 to pass through border control more quickly and comfortably.

The border control process via the electronic gate is carried out in an automated manner across key stages. After the passenger presents their identity document to the relevant reader, the data in the document is automatically read by the system, necessary checks are performed across relevant information systems, and the person’s identification is carried out based on biometric data.

When the consistency of all data is confirmed, the electronic gate opens automatically, and the passenger’s border control process is completed. The mentioned process is carried out via the electronic gate in approximately 20 seconds.

The implementation of the system creates conditions for the automation of the main stages of border control, reducing the waiting time for passengers at border crossing points, increasing the flexibility and efficiency of control procedures, as well as minimizing the human factor.

The “Electronic gate border control system” has been launched in the arrival hall of Heydar Aliyev International Airport in the initial phase.

In the next stage, it is planned to implement the system at other state border crossing points. Currently, relevant work is underway to expand and improve the capabilities of the system.

The main goal in applying the new technology is not only to ensure that passengers pass through border control faster, but also to increase passenger satisfaction, expand the scope of digital technologies in border control, and form effective control mechanisms that meet modern requirements.

The implementation of this system is one of the important steps taken towards developing digital and innovative border control infrastructure at Azerbaijan’s international airports and integrating advanced technologies into the field of border protection and border control.

The State Border Service continues its activities towards organizing border control at state border crossing points in accordance with modern standards, applying innovative technologies, and creating more flexible and comfortable service opportunities for passengers.
