“Analyses show that one of the main factors causing road traffic accidents is the failure to maintain a safe following distance while driving. This type of traffic violation leads to severe consequences, especially when driving at high speeds on highways, as well as in conditions of heavy traffic flow on city roads.”
elchi reports that this was stated in a message from the Main State Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
It was noted that failing to maintain a sufficient following distance makes it difficult for a driver to react in time if the vehicle in front brakes suddenly, changes direction unexpectedly, encounters an obstacle, or stops moving:
“As a result, rear-end collisions, chain-reaction accidents, loss of vehicle control, and other serious crashes occur. This risk increases even further in adverse weather and road conditions.
Drivers should keep in mind that a safe following distance is not a fixed value. It must be determined according to driving speed, road conditions, weather, visibility, and the intensity of traffic flow. The distance maintained from the vehicle in front should be such that in the event of sudden braking, the appearance of an unexpected obstacle, or any other dangerous situation, the driver can correctly assess the situation, react in time, and stop the vehicle safely.
The Main State Traffic Police Department calls on all drivers to pay special attention to maintaining a safe following distance, to refrain from behaviors that increase the risk of accidents, and to always act responsibly behind the wheel.”
