It is reported that the number of people who lost their lives in the two major earthquakes that occurred in Venezuela on June 24 has reached 6125.
“Elchi” reports that Jorge Rodriguez, President of the National Assembly (AN) of Venezuela, stated in a post on his social media account that the number of people who lost their lives in the earthquake increased by 579 to reach 6125, and the number of injured reached 16740.
Meanwhile, Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, made statements at a housing handover ceremony she attended in the capital, Caracas.
Emphasizing that they will hand over 4000 houses to 4000 families by the end of the year, Rodriguez said: “In addition to these 4000 houses that we will hand over by December, we are continuing our land surveys and site clearing works to start the construction of new houses. Moreover, this figure does not include new projects that we will build from scratch.”
Stating that they will not leave the victims alone, Rodriguez said: “Our goal is to bring peace and happiness to our citizens who were seriously affected by this double earthquake; to make them feel that they are not alone. We want every person, every child, and every adult staying in temporary tent cities and camps to know that they are not alone.”
Two major earthquakes occurred in Venezuela
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that two earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 occurred in Venezuela on June 24 with a 39-second interval. In its statement dated June 26, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) estimated the direct material damage caused by the earthquakes at 6.7 billion dollars.
