What concessions will be granted to only sons in military service?

The issue of organizing military service differently for the only male children of families in Azerbaijan is currently not on the agenda.

elchi reports that military expert Adalat Verdiyev stated to Modern.az that this issue is not being discussed in parliament or by relevant government agencies.

According to him, since most families in the country have only one male child, the implementation of such a model does not seem practically feasible.

“Since most families in Azerbaijan already have only one male child, their numbers do not allow for such a decision to be made or for only sons to be stationed differently. Such a proposal has not been discussed in parliament, nor have security agencies made such a proposal, nor have other relevant bodies initiated such a move,” the expert said.

Adalat Verdiyev believes that such an approach could also create undesirable consequences from a demographic perspective.

“Statistical data suggest that such discussions could lead to major negative outcomes. Many families might make different decisions regarding the birth of a second male child. The birth rate in our country is already declining. Such a decision could have a negative impact on the demographic situation.”

the expert emphasized that distinguishing between conscripts based on whether there is another male child in the family is also inconsistent with the principle of equality provided for in the Constitution.

“Every person is an individual. Distinguishing based on whether there is another male child in the family would violate the concept of equality in the matter of citizens fulfilling their duty to the Motherland.”

According to Adalat Verdiyev, the current regional security situation also does not allow for such concessions.

“Major wars are going on to our right and left, and regional conflicts are approaching a global scale. In such circumstances, it would not be correct to adapt restrictions applied in different European countries in terms of security to Azerbaijan. As threats increase, the state is forced to keep the size and staffing level of the army high. In such a case, granting concessions and privileges to individual categories could have a negative impact on the staffing of the army.”
