Due to the drop in water levels in the Danube River in Romania, a Swiss ship with more than 200 people on board has run aground.

Sailing under the Swiss flag, the passenger ship was traveling from the port of Drobeta-Turnu-Severin, located in southwestern Romania, effectively on the border with Serbia, towards the Bulgarian city of Vidin.
The ship ran aground near the Romanian city of Salcia due to extremely low water levels in the Danube. Despite several attempts to move the ship on Monday evening and Tuesday morning, they were unsuccessful.
There are 186 passengers and 52 crew members on board. The chances of it being refloated are considered low.
