US President Donald Trump has announced that Washington will launch an investigation into the European Union’s (EU) policies following large fines imposed on American technology companies and has threatened Brussels with new tariffs.
elchi reports that the relevant post was shared on the American leader’s “Truth Social” page.
According to Trump, the EU has groundlessly fined Apple $15 billion, Meta $3 billion, Amazon $2.5 billion, and Google $1 billion. The American leader claims that the total amount of fines imposed on Google has exceeded $18 billion.
Trump called the EU’s actions an “illegal and highly discriminatory practice.”
“We will immediately launch an investigation under Section 301 regarding the ‘robbery’ practice of American companies and, in turn, American taxpayers. The European Union will face severe consequences for this illegal and highly unethical behavior,” Trump emphasized.
He also added that Brussels must completely cancel the fines; otherwise, Washington plans to impose “significant import tariffs” on the EU in the near future.
