Another case regarding the re-regulation of the status of internally displaced persons within the legislative framework has been determined.
elchi reports that this is reflected in the amendment to the Law “On the Status of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (Persons Displaced Within the Country)” approved by President Ilham Aliyev.
Until now, an internally displaced person loses their status when they return to their former place of residence, or are provided with another residence of a specified size in that region in place of their former residence free of charge, or are provided with a residence at a level determined by a special decision of the state.
According to the law, a citizen will also lose this status if they refuse the aforementioned residences.
According to the transitional provision, the status of internally displaced persons who were provided with another residence free of charge in the liberated territories in place of their former residence before the date this law enters into force shall be terminated from the date this Law enters into force.
According to the new law, a person will be provided with another residence of a specified size in the region where they live in place of their former residence, and thus the provision of a new residential area by the state will serve to fully restore the citizen’s property rights.
