The death toll from Ebola fever in DR Congo and Uganda has exceeded 1,000

The number of people who have lost their lives as a result of the ongoing Ebola fever outbreak in the DRC and Uganda has exceeded 1,000.

elchi reports that, according to information provided by the Xinhua agency citing the Ministries of Health of both countries, as of July 20, 2,473 cases of infection and 999 deaths have been confirmed in the DRC. In Uganda, 20 infections and two deaths have been recorded. Thus, the total number of victims has reached 1,001.

This outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo virus, was declared on May 15 in the Ituri province in the east of the DRC and subsequently spread to several other regions of the country. Currently, 737 patients are receiving treatment, and 482 people have recovered.
