The Lithuanian Minister of Defense announced that the protection of critical infrastructure has been strengthened.
“Elchi” reports that Lithuanian security authorities have strengthened the protection of the country’s critical infrastructure. The head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, Robertas Kaunas, announced this in an interview with LRT.
He linked the increased protection of critical infrastructure to Vilnius’s concerns regarding Russia. Kaunas noted that the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has requested the Ministry of Defense to provide equipment and personnel. According to the minister, intelligence data is analyzed daily to prevent possible “hybrid attacks” from Russia.
Kaunas added that 5,000 people will be called up for military service in Lithuania this year.
On July 20, the Lithuanian Minister of Defense stated that Russia’s next “targets” could allegedly be the Baltic states and Poland. On July 15, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated that Russia could be planning attacks on critical infrastructure in Poland or the Baltic states and that Vilnius had received relevant signals from security services.
