From July 16, the traffic direction of vehicles on Abdulazal Damirchizade Street in Baku will be reversed.
“Elchi” reports this with reference to the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA) under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.
According to the information, the change is being implemented within the framework of the project approved by the Transport Coordination Council. This project is a continuation of the successful projects previously implemented on Koroglu Rahimov Street and Khatai Avenue.
Vehicles moving from Tabriz Street towards Heydar Aliyev Avenue will be able to continue their movement only via Koroglu Rahimov and Ahmad bay Agaoglu streets, unlike the previous direction.
“As a result of the change, the number of traffic light phases at the intersection of Khatai Avenue and Abdulazal Damirchizade Street will be reduced from 3 to 2. This will reduce the average waiting time for vehicles by approximately 40 seconds and increase the throughput capacity of the intersection. This will mainly have a positive impact on traffic conditions on Koroglu Rahimov Street and Khatai Avenue, as well as on Yusif Safarov Street and Heydar Aliyev Avenue,” the statement noted.
It was stated that a new bus lane will also be organized within the framework of the project. The created bus lane will ensure the movement of buses only to the right, that is, in the direction of the Ministry of Science and Education, without hindering the general flow.
During the implementation of the project, the existing parking spaces on Damirchizade Street will be fully preserved.
It should be recalled that this is a temporary solution until the construction of the tunnel connecting Agaoglu and Yusif Safarov streets, which is envisaged in the “State Program for the Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025–2030”.
