Dual degree program to be launched at Karabakh University

Starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, a dual degree program in engineering majors will be launched at Karabakh University in partnership with Istanbul Technical University (ITU), one of the world’s prestigious technical higher education institutions.

“Elchi” reports that the new dual degree program is being implemented within the framework of measures to expand the scope of international dual degree programs in higher education, as established by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated July 22, 2025, “On additional measures regarding the increase of international competitiveness of the higher education system in the Republic of Azerbaijan,” and is state-funded.

The dual degree program covers civil engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, and chemical engineering majors at the Faculty of Engineering. Within the framework of the program, instruction will be conducted entirely in English. Students will study at Karabakh University for the first 3 years and at Istanbul Technical University for the final year. Graduates who successfully complete their education will be awarded diplomas from both universities.

As part of the dual degree program, ITU faculty members will be involved in the teaching process, students will study in modern laboratories to be established in Khankendi, and will undergo industrial internships in Turkey. At the same time, they will have the opportunity to participate in a summer school in Turkey. During their studies, in addition to theoretical knowledge, students will work on real projects, gaining professional skills in the fields of design, production, management of technological processes, and the development of engineering solutions.

Thanks to modern laboratories, cooperation with industrial enterprises, and practice-oriented teaching, students will acquire competencies in line with the demands of the labor market and will be formed as specialists ready to contribute to the support of the country’s infrastructure, industry, and technological development, as well as to the development of innovative and sustainable solutions.

It should be noted that according to the “QS World University Rankings 2027” results, Istanbul Technical University ranks first among Turkish universities and 279th among world universities.
