Procedures for extending the temporary stay of foreigners in Azerbaijan are being digitized

Administrative procedures regarding the extension of the temporary stay of foreigners in Azerbaijan are being digitized.

elchi reports that this is reflected in the proposed amendments to the Migration Code, the Law “On Registration at the Place of Residence and Stay,” and the Law “On State Duty,” which were discussed at today’s session of the Milli Majlis.

No state duty will be charged for the re-issuance of a decision on the extension of the temporary stay in Azerbaijan.

In addition, a transitional provision is being added to the draft law. According to the transitional provision, decisions on the extension of the temporary stay issued before the date the Law enters into force will remain in legal effect until the expiration of the period specified therein. In cases where such decisions are lost, destroyed, rendered unusable, or if the information in the identity documents of the foreigner or stateless person changes, they will be prepared electronically, transmitted to the Electronic Government Information System for placement in the applicant’s electronic cabinet, and simultaneously sent to the applicant’s email address. In these cases, no state duty will be required for the re-issuance of the decision.

It was noted that, as a result, the draft law serves to digitize public services, simplify document circulation, expand the electronic processing of applications, increase the efficiency of administrative procedures, and align legislation with the principles of electronic governance.

The draft law was put to a vote and adopted in the third reading.
