Turkey and Azerbaijan are the two closest states in the world.
elchi reports that President Ilham Aliyev stated this at the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum.
“Turkey and Azerbaijan are the two closest states in the world. If you look at the level of political, economic, energy, and transport relations, as well as the relationships between people, it is probably difficult to find two other countries in the world as close to each other, supporting each other as much, and as friendly as Turkey and Azerbaijan. This is a great asset for our peoples and our states. We are stronger together. This is also an important factor in terms of regional stability and cooperation, including the transport links I touched upon earlier. At the same time, it plays an important role in ensuring security. Because five years ago, here in Shusha, we signed the Shusha Declaration together with the President of Turkey, and this document elevated our relations to the level of alliance. Thus, we are not only brothers and friends, but also allies. If something unpleasant happens to one of the parties, the other will be there to defend its brother with all its capabilities, including its military potential. This is a very rare example where ethnic roots, common culture, and shared history have formed such close political relations between states.
I am sure you know numerous examples where peoples belonging to the same or similar ethnic roots and the same language family could not build such relations. On the contrary, sometimes peoples who speak almost the same language are at war with each other. We also see that peoples sharing the same religion enter into conflict. Therefore, Turkey-Azerbaijan relations should be studied and taken as an example by neighboring countries. Neighbors should understand and respect each other,” the head of state noted.
