Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the tension between the US and Iran can only end with an agreement that reflects the interests of all parties.
According to the statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, as part of his African tour. Received by Mozambican President Daniel Chapo, Lavrov met with his Mozambican counterpart Manuela dos Santos Lukas. The two ministers held a joint press conference after the meeting. In his speech, Lavrov stated that they intend to develop and strengthen the strategic partnership with Mozambique. Expressing their support for the Mozambican government’s initiatives to eliminate the terrorist threat in the north of the country, Lavrov said: “We are supporting Mozambique in various forms, including personnel training and the supply of necessary weapons and military equipment.”
Speaking at the press conference, Lavrov also commented on Ukraine, saying: “The West is issuing an open ultimatum to Russia while claiming to be ready for negotiations. The West demonstrates its hypocrisy by calling for a negotiated solution to the crisis. These solutions were reached in 2014, 2015, and 2019 with the guarantees of the West. However, each time these guarantees were violated by the West. The West also violated the agreement reached between Russia and Ukraine in 2022. We do not believe that the West truly wants a negotiated solution. In this regard, our goodwill and hope have been exhausted.”
Regarding Iran, Lavrov stated, “This issue can only be resolved through an agreement that reflects the interests of all parties. This agreement must encompass not only Iran, neighboring countries, and the US, but also all countries suffering from the negative impact of the current situation on the global economy.”
