Politico: Trump disrupts NATO allies’ agreement plans
elchi reports, citing Politico, that NATO member countries were hoping for new agreements with US President Donald Trump, but he disrupted them.
The article states that instead of concluding agreements, the American leader spoke harshly, causing allies to once again question his commitment to defense.
Furthermore, NATO officials are concerned that Trump’s harsh rhetoric will continue regarding future US military presence in Europe, support for Ukraine, and negotiations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
A day earlier, Trump stated that the US is not obligated to spend money on security in Europe and could withdraw all its troops from there. The American president also noted that he was “very disappointed” with NATO.
The NATO Heads of State and Government Summit is being held on July 7-8 in Ankara, the capital of Turkey.
