Azerbaijani Police – 108 years old

It is the 108th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijani Police.

elchi reports that, by the Decree signed by National Leader Heydar Aliyev in 1998, July 2 was declared Azerbaijani Police Day.

During its activities covering the years 1918-1920, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and its organizational structure, the police bodies, played an important role in defending the national interests of our first independent state with great patriotism. After the fall of the republic, they developed during the 70 years that Azerbaijan was part of the Soviet Union, achieving high results and gaining rich experience in maintaining public order.

In particular, the years 1970-1980, when our republic achieved great success in economic, social, and other fields under the leadership of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, went down in the history of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as the most important stage.

During this period, the National Leader made important decisions regarding the organizational and ideological strengthening of internal affairs bodies, the purification of their ranks, and the promotion of professional personnel.

It was the result of the personnel being formed in a national spirit that in 1988, the regular force that first valiantly repelled Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan was the militia, and in subsequent years, the Internal Troops units.

The activities of the internal affairs bodies have also been successful in the subsequent years of our independence. Thus, the Azerbaijani police shoulder important tasks such as fighting crime, maintaining public order, and ensuring security.

With the election of President Ilham Aliyev as President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in October 2003, our country entered a new stage of development, and stability became a symbol of our independent state, moving confidently towards future successes and progress.

The Azerbaijani Police is a unified, centralized law enforcement agency with a strong material and technical base, a precisely organized system for protecting public order, legality, and the rule of law, and a professional staff corps.

The continuously developing internal affairs bodies stand out for their significant services in the fight against crime and its transnational types in the country, as well as in ensuring order and security.

At the same time, they professionally perform their duties in the field of protecting the legitimate interests, rights, and freedoms of citizens, and by always remaining loyal to their duty, they justify the trust and confidence placed in them.
