Rutte: NATO must make Kyiv as strong as possible before negotiations with Moscow.
elchi reports that, according to the Financial Times (FT), NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that the alliance must make Ukraine as strong as possible before the possible negotiations with Russia that will begin “one day.”
Rutte clarified that Ukraine is showing certain successes in the conflict with Russia, and this was acknowledged by US President Donald Trump during his meeting with Rutte at the White House.
“What we can do is support Ukraine in this fight and make sure it is as strong as possible.
Putin must decide whether he wants to come [to the negotiations],” the alliance’s secretary general said. A day earlier, the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” newspaper reported that in preparation for the upcoming alliance summit to be held in Turkey, NATO countries could not agree on long-term commitments for military aid to Kyiv until 2027, and that Italy opposed the agreement.
The alliance agreed on 70 billion euros in military support for Kyiv until 2026, but the alliance countries could not reach an agreement for the following year.
