NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, claiming that Iran acquiring nuclear weapons would pose a threat to the entire world, stated, “Iran must under no circumstances possess nuclear weapons.”
elchi reports that in a statement to journalists after his meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House, Rutte said they discussed the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara and issues regarding the increase of defense spending in Europe and Canada.
Emphasizing that NATO countries have taken a common stance to prevent Iran from possessing nuclear weapons, Rutte claimed that Iran acquiring nuclear weapons would pose a threat to the entire world.

Disagreement with Spain regarding defense spending
Stating that Trump remains committed to NATO, Rutte said the US President expects allies to increase their defense spending. Rutte noted that Spain is also committed to meeting NATO’s defense goals and that the Madrid government claims it can achieve these goals by increasing defense spending to 2.2 percent of GDP.
He expressed his disagreement with this assessment, stating that he believes higher defense spending is necessary to reach the targets and that this disagreement has remained unchanged since last year.
