US intelligence has informed President Donald Trump that there is a high probability that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may take steps that could jeopardize a potential peace agreement with Iran.
“Elchi” reports that The Washington Post (WP) newspaper has reported this, citing sources.
“The Israeli head of government is under severe political pressure demanding that he continue military operations in Lebanon. As intelligence reports indicate, Israel does not intend to stop military operations directed against Hezbollah (a radical Lebanese group),” the report stated.
US intelligence analysts have concluded that, against the backdrop of upcoming parliamentary elections, Netanyahu’s political future is directly linked to his determination to maintain military activity in Lebanon.
Furthermore, the report reflects the Israeli side’s dissatisfaction with the terms of the memorandum signed between Washington and Tehran. Specifically, those terms contradict Tel Aviv’s plans regarding Iran.
Earlier today, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the Israel Defense Forces will maintain their presence in southern Lebanon to protect residential areas from Hezbollah threats.
