SEC: Students drop out of some engineering majors

“In the competition for the I specialty group, applicants with lower scores are admitted to some technical and engineering majors. Later, due to the difficulty of the educational process (a large number of subjects, high complexity, numerous laboratory and project works), their motivation decreases, leading to poor academic performance and attendance. As a result, these students often have to drop out or change their majors.”

“Elchi” reports that this information was published in the 12th issue of the State Examination Center’s “Abituriyent” magazine, within the scientific-statistical materials regarding student admission for the 2025/2026 academic year and the results of graduation exams for general education institutions.

The report notes that the difficulties graduates face in integrating into the labor market in some engineering and technical fields are also a factor influencing those admitted to these majors to discontinue their studies:

“In general, applicants choose majors based on the passing scores formed in previous years’ admission competitions, matching them with the scores they achieved in the exam.

Sometimes, the scores they achieve do not correspond to the majors they desire (their scores are lower), and as a result, they are admitted to majors they did not want during the competition, or they choose majors based on their parents’ wishes rather than their own.

All these factors mentioned, of course, can lead to a decrease in the students’ interest in those majors during their studies, a drop in motivation, poor academic performance, and the emergence of a desire to change their majors.”
