French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his surprise at the renewed tension between US President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
“Elchi” reports that the French President stated this in response to a question from the Italian news agency ANSA.
The French President added that he will meet with Meloni at the intergovernmental summit to be held in Antibes on June 25 and will discuss the incident in question.
It should be noted that in a short interview with the “La7” TV channel, Trump claimed that Italian Prime Minister Meloni had “begged” him to take a picture with her at the G7 summit held in France.
Meloni, in turn, accused Trump of lying and emphasized that she was disappointed by such behavior. Additionally, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced that he had canceled his visit to the US scheduled for June 21-22.
It is worth recalling that previously, disagreements had arisen between US President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni over international issues, including the assessment of Pope Leo XIV’s statements regarding US and Israeli military operations against Iran.
