Internally displaced person status is being re-regulated within the legislative framework

Another case regarding the re-regulation of the status of internally displaced persons within the legislative framework is being established.
“Elchi” reports that this is reflected in the proposed amendment to the Law “On the status of refugees and internally displaced persons (persons displaced within the country)”, which was discussed at today’s meeting of the Milli Majlis.
According to current legislation, an internally displaced person loses their status when they return to their usual place of residence, or when they are provided with another place of residence of a specified size in that region in place of their previous residence free of charge, or when they are provided with a place of residence at a level determined by a special decision of the state.
According to the draft, a citizen will also lose this status if they refuse the aforementioned places of residence.
According to the transitional provision, the status of internally displaced persons who were provided with another place of residence in the liberated territories free of charge in place of their previous residence before the date this law enters into force shall be terminated from the date this Law enters into force.
According to the new proposal, a person will be provided with another place of residence of a specified size in the region where they live in place of their previous residence, and thus the provision of a new living space by the state will serve to fully restore the citizen’s property rights.
The draft law was put to a vote and adopted in the first reading.
