“Regulating early marriage in Azerbaijan is one of the main priority issues of state policy.”
“Elchi” reports that this was stated by Aynur Osmanova, Head of the Legal Support and Human Rights Issues Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office, during a live broadcast on the Prosecutor General’s Office’s Instagram page.
She noted that the provision regarding lowering the marriage age by 1 year has been removed: “Currently, the marriage age for both genders is 18. Performing a religious marriage ceremony does not exempt people from liability. Fines have also been established in the Code of Administrative Offenses for performing religious marriage ceremonies with minors. Performing religious marriage ceremonies with minors also creates liability.”
