“Lebanon is a sovereign state and does not need the patronage of Iran, which pursues its own interests.”
elchi reports that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated this on June 7 while commenting on Iran’s missile attack on Israel following an airstrike on Beirut.
“We welcome the support of friendly Gulf states, but Iran’s interference in the conflict to achieve goals that do not serve the interests of the Lebanese people is unacceptable to us. Continuing the war will bring no benefit, as we have chosen negotiations with Israel,” the head of state emphasized.
According to Aoun, the Lebanese, who contribute to the development of many countries, are capable of independently rebuilding and strengthening their state without Iranian patronage.
The President emphasized that the goal of the negotiations held in the US with Israel is to restore Lebanon’s full sovereignty; the people of this country should no longer be under anyone’s patronage or control. He added that the negotiations are aimed at strengthening the role of the government and consolidating Lebanon’s national sovereignty.
The Lebanese President also noted that the outcome of the discussions should lead to strengthening the independence of decision-making in the country.
