In accordance with the relevant instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, the improvement of pedestrian and public transport infrastructure in the capital continues.
“Elchi” reports that within the framework of the “State Program for the Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025-2030”, a large-scale project is being launched on Tabriz Street to ensure the comfort of pedestrians, public transport users, and micromobility users.
According to the conducted analyses, a number of shortcomings hindering pedestrian movement have been identified on Tabriz Street. In many parts of the street, narrow sidewalks and the lack of regulated pedestrian crossings make it difficult for pedestrians to move.
From the perspective of traffic organization, conflicts arising between turning and transit flows reduce the street’s capacity, negatively affecting both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. There is also no infrastructure for micromobility vehicles on the street.
Passengers using public transport also face several difficulties. Narrow sidewalks in areas where bus stops are located, poor infrastructure equipment, and the non-optimal placement of some stops complicate the current situation.
In order to eliminate the existing shortcomings, the Transport Coordination Council has made a decision regarding the improvement of pedestrian and public transport infrastructure on Tabriz Street.
Within the framework of the project, taking into account pedestrian and traffic flows around the “Nariman Narimanov” metro station, a small interchange center for buses will be created, new pedestrian crossings will be organized, and a continuous pedestrian environment will be formed.
Measures will be taken to better manage pedestrian flows in the boulevard-type sidewalk section of the street and to improve movement conditions by widening the sidewalk.
The attractiveness of the area will be increased near the Baku Congress Center through the organization of safe pedestrian crossings, the creation of a buffer zone consisting of trees, and the arrangement of parking areas.
As a result of the work to be carried out, the safety and comfort of pedestrians on Tabriz Street will be increased, accessibility to public transport will be improved, and the street space will be formed in a more functional way in accordance with modern urban mobility principles.
