The withdrawal of Hezbollah organization units from southern Lebanon must take place simultaneously with the evacuation of Israeli occupying forces.
“Elchi” reports that this was stated by the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, who acts as a mediator on behalf of Hezbollah in contacts with the Lebanese authorities and the US.
“Hezbollah will begin withdrawing its fighters from areas south of the Litani River only on the condition that the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the occupied territories is carried out in parallel,” the politician said.
Berri emphasized that he would agree to a settlement of the conflict in this version only “if an unconditional ceasefire is declared on land, at sea, and in the air.” He criticized the agreements reached during the Lebanon-Israel talks held in Washington on June 2–3, calling them “hybrid,” and refused to discuss the creation of so-called “experimental zones” in southern Lebanon that would be under the control of the Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers.
