Bot internet traffic surpasses human internet traffic

Cloudflare, a cloud-based web hosting and security company, announced that 57.4% of requests made to certain websites using its infrastructure are now automated bot requests, while human-generated traffic remains at 42.6%.
elchi reports that for the first time in internet history, web traffic from AI agents and bots has surpassed human-generated traffic.
This milestone, which occurred sooner than expected, highlights the rapid development of artificial intelligence and its impact on the internet.
Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare, one of the largest internet hosting services, stated via his X account on Thursday: “This happened sooner than I expected.”
Prince noted that he had predicted this development would occur by late 2027 or early 2027 at the earliest, adding: “But autonomous agent traffic is growing so fast that bots have surpassed online human traffic for the first time in internet history.” This increase in internet traffic is attributed to the rapid proliferation of autonomous AI agents that collaborate with high-level programs and data without requiring human intervention.
According to Cloudflare data, 57.4% of web requests are initiated by bots, while the human share has fallen to 42.6%.
While humans visit an average of five websites before making a purchase, an AI service can scan 5,000 websites.
It is not exactly known on which day agent and bot activity surpassed human activity. Prince stated that the data and charts are somewhat complex, but it is clear that the threshold has now been crossed.
In an interview with NBC News, Prince stated that he is “still surprised” by the growth rate of non-human traffic on the internet and explained that this could lead to large-scale consequences.
