NATO announces changes in the alliance’s policy

The head of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, has announced a change in the bloc’s policy.

“Elchi” reports that the goal of this policy is now to achieve greater autonomy and a fair distribution of defense spending among allies.

“What we are seeing within the alliance is not fragmentation, but a shift… We cannot deter anyone by waving money in the air,” Dragone noted at the Shangri-La Dialogue forum held in Singapore.

As the Admiral noted, the changes require a more responsible approach and a realistic sharing of the burden in the current situation.

He stated that European countries are increasing their defense investments and taking greater responsibility for their own security. Dragone recalled the agreement reached at the NATO Hague summit, where all 32 allies pledged to allocate 3.5% of GDP to national defense and an additional 1.5% to defense infrastructure.
