US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Cuba poses a “national security threat” to the US and that the probability of a peace agreement is “not high.”
elchi reports that Rubio’s statement came one day after the US accused former Cuban President Raul Castro of murder in connection with the 1996 downing of two planes and the deaths of US citizens.
Rubio noted that Washington’s preference is a “diplomatic solution,” but emphasized that President Donald Trump has the right and obligation to protect his country from any threat.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez accused Rubio of “lying” and stated that the island has never posed a threat to the US.
